It has been 24 years since Iran lost the prominent director, screenwriter and actor, Ali Hatami.

ifilm website remembers Hatami, who died in 1996, sharing some rare photos of the iconic filmmaker.

The director was born in the Iranian capital, Tehran, in 1944.

Hatami began his career with playwriting. His first play ‘Deeb’ (Demon) was performed in 1965.

He made his feature film directorial debut in 1970.

Hatami is well known for his series ‘Hezar Dastan’.

He also directed a number of movies, including ‘Kamal-ol-Molk’ (1983), ‘Jafar Khan Returns from Abroad’ (1987), ‘Mother’ (1989), and ‘The Devoted’ (1991).

Ali Hatami died on December 4, 1996 after a long battle with pancreatic cancer, while he was directing the movie ‘Takhti, the World Champion’.

He is survived by his wife, and his daughter, the famous actress Leila Hatami, who is married to Iranian actor Ali Mosaffa.
