Salento Int’l filmfest to show Iranian-Canadian ‘Botox’

The Salento Int’l Film Festival in Italy is to screen Iranian-Canadian feature ‘Botox’.

The Salento International Film Festival (BISCEGLIE) in Italy has been scheduled to screen Iranian-Canadian feature ‘Botox’.

Directed by Kaveh Mazaheri, the 97-minute acclaimed drama will compete at the official section of the 18th edition of the Italian event.

‘Botox’ is about Akram and Azar, two siblings who have lied to everyone about their brother’s disappearance. They have told others that he fled to Germany and that they have no news of him.

Gradually, the lie turns into reality in Akram’s mind. She starts to count the days for her brother to come back.

The movie “recalls for snow-covered landscapes, but, above all, for the original characteristics of the two protagonist sisters, Akram and Azar, certain figures of bewildered and irresistible matadors. The film was inspired by a real person, says the director, with whom I have lived for years. Akram is a woman with autism who has been constantly humiliated by her brother for years. I’ve always wondered what would happen if Akram could one day receive compensation for everything she went through, the website of the BISCEGLIE reads.

Sousan Parvar, Mahdokht Molaee, Soroush Saeedi, Morteza Khanjani and Mohsen Kiani are among the cast members of the flick.

Currently vying at the Beijing International Film Festival in China and slated to vie at the Amman International Film Festival – Awal Film (AIFF) in Jordan next week, ‘Botox’ has previously been screened at a number of global events, including the Burgas International Film Festival in Bulgaria, the Fajr International Film Festival in Iran, where it won first-film director award, and the Torino Film Festival in Italy, where it grabbed the awards for best screenplay and best film.

The 18th edition of the BISCEGLIE will be held on September 7-12, 2021.
