After observing a prayer, Iranians share a meal together to break their fast. This is called Iftar and traditionally begins with dates, water and fruits followed by an indulgent meal.
Iftar is in fact an opportunity for people to come together and is best experienced communally.
Fasting also strengthens ties within families, neighbors, friends and communities as they gather daily for Iftars to break the fast after sunset.
This practice has been touched upon in many Iranian movies and series.
