Kiarostami's film makes Indiewire's list of top 80s movies

The Indiewire film and review website has compiled a list of 100 best movies of the 80s, and Abbas Kiarostami’s ‘Where Is the Friend’s House?’ is among the titles featured.

The legendary late Iranian filmmaker's 1987 movie, which is one of the sequels to his most famous trilogy along with 'Through the Olive Trees' and 'Life and Nothing More', has ranked 18th on the newly released list.

Kiarostami's masterpiece depicts a young boy named Ahmad who, by accident, ends up with his classmate Mohammed's notebook. Ahmad must deliver the notebook to Mohammed to prevent his friend from getting into trouble.

Their authoritarian teacher has warned Mohammed that he'll be expelled from the class if he forgets his notebook again. However, Ahmad must undertake a perilous journey to a distant location to find his friend's house. 

Indiewire characterizes Abbas Kiarostami's work as crafting "an empathetic masterpiece of subjectivity and childhood perception, beautifully portraying the memory of being unnoticed by everyone around you and feeling profoundly isolated in a world that you only partially comprehend".

The prolific Iranian film maestro dedicated his lifetime to creating intricate films that secured positions among the world's finest cinematic productions. One notable example is his film 'The Taste of Cherry', which earned him numerous accolades, including the Palme d'Or award at the 1997 Cannes Film Festival.

Despite the artistic visionary's passing in 2016, his remarkable films like 'Close-Up' and 'The Wind Will Carry Us' stand as the enduring legacy that has immortalized him as an artist.
