Nestled in the Iranian province of Sistan and Baluchestan, Kalpourgan has a history in the art of pottery that dates back to more than 7,000 years ago.
Kalpourgan boasts a population of around 300 residents who have upheld the tradition of pottery.
What sets Kalpourgan apart is its community of skilled female artisans, who create stunning pottery with their bare hands and without any mechanical tools.
Men support the artistic process by preparing the clay.
The talented artisans produce a wide range of pottery, including bowls, vessels, and cups, often decorated with primitive colors and patterns reminiscent of ancient artifacts found in the region.
The Kalpourgan Clay Living Museum established some 44 years ago, offers visitors a unique opportunity to observe the creation of beautiful pieces in person.
Kalpourgan is the first village registered on the World Crafts Council (WCC) list for its exceptional contributions to handicrafts.
