Some Iranian traditional music pieces could survive through ages by the help of artists of next generations who lent their voices to cover those songs.
One such song that has been reproduced several times is the song ‘Towards You’ originally composed by Majid Vafadar and sung by late Darioush Rafi’ei in 1950.
Kouros Sarhangzadeh, Ali Zand-Vakili and Mohammad Motamedi are some of the musicians who have covered this piece in their own way.
In 2007, a slightly modified cover version of the piece by Mehran Zahedi made for the series ‘The First Night of Peace’ was released.
Here are the lyrics for ‘Towards You’ translated in English:
Towards you,
Passionate to see you,
To where you reside
I’ll come at dawn
Hoping to find you
Tell me where you are!
I look for you high and low
Look how fearless I am in your pursuit
How can I forget your beautiful face?
How can I think of anyone else?
If I find you, I’ll confess my love.
Tell me where you are.
I gave you my heart,
What more can I give you?
I’m totally love-struck
What else do you want?
My love,
I never fail to think of you
How do you still ask of my wellbeing?
As long as I’ll live
I’m enslaved by you
I wish you.
If I find you, I’ll confess my love.
Tell me where you are.
I gave you my bewitched heart.
What more can I give you?
I’m totally love-struck
What else do you want?
