Iranian animation ‘The White Whale’ to partake in AnimArt fest

The competition lineup of the 15th edition of the AnimArt Film Festival in Greece is to host Iranian animation ‘The White Whale’.

The competition lineup of the 15th edition of the AnimArt Film Festival in Greece is to host Iranian animation ‘The White Whale’.

Directed by Amir Mehran, the short animated piece is a joint production between the director and Iran-based Documentary and Experimental Film Center (DEFC).

The 8-minute piece has a universal theme and narrates the story of a lonely man who is trying to find a number of friends he lost in an airstrike years ago and a white whale is the only sign he has.

The production crew consists of writer and director Amir Mehran, character designer Abolfazl Boroumandi, set designer Naim Azad, animator Jalal Naimi, storyboard creator Ammar Ghanbarzadeh, and producers Amir Mehran and the Documentary and Experimental Film Center.

The animation previously competed at the 36th Warsaw Film Festival (WFF) in Poland where it grabbed the best short animation award of the event.

It has also made way into the 2021 International festival of animated film “Constantine's Gold Coin” in Serbia

Besides, the 51st USA Film Festival bestowed a nom on ‘The White Whale’ for the Best Short Animation award.

It is currently competing at the 15th River International Film Festival (RIFF) in Italy, which will wrap up on July 25, 2021.  

The ANIMART Festival is a platform for students from all over the world to participate in their animated films, digital artwork such as paintings, cartoons, photographs, etc.

The event will be running from July 20 to 25 in Hydra Island in Greece.
