Standing some 100 feet tall on a mound in northeastern Iran, Radkan Tower is a sophisticated astronomical tower built by one of the greatest Persian scholars of the Islamic Golden Age.

Created by Iranian mathematician, astronomer and scientist Khajeh Nasir al-Din al-Tusi, Radkan Tower was built in the 7th century.

The structure is believed to be the only tower that can contribute to the recognition of the four seasons as well as the beginning of Nowruz (Iranian New Year).

Khajeh Nasir has calculated the distance from the earth to the moon through Radkan Tower and Akhangan Tower in Razavi Khorasan Province.
