With an area of 3,000 square meters, the castle constructed in the Safavid era (1501-1736) is considered a great landmark of Birjand city in South Khorasan Province.
Historically, the castle protected the civilians against the assailants with some underground tunnels connecting the vital spots of the city to the fortress.
There were also huge food storage places in the building in case of any attack in the historic city.
Visiting the castle paves the way for you to leaf through the huge ancient Iranian history.
