Shapour cave is one of the must-see places in Iran’s southwestern province of Fars.
The cave lies about 4 km from the city of Bishapur, in Kazerun County, the most important capital of the Sasanian Empire.
Shapour cave is located nearly 800 meters above the earth’s surface and its mouth is about 30 meter.
A statute of Shapour, the second ruler of the Sasanid Empire, is situated at the mouth of the cave from which name of the cave was inspired.
The seven meters high statue was carved from one stalagmite. After 1700 years, the statute still remains but its two hands are broken.
