Dorri stages 'Leyli and Majnoun' opera

Tehran's Shahrzad Theater has staged a new opera titled 'Leyli and Majnoun'.

Written, directed and produced by Seyyed-Jalaleddin Dorri, the opera had first opened on April 14.

It is also scheduled to have a number of performances on Saturdays at the Shahrzad Theater.

The play has borrowed its title from the renowned work of the 12-century Persian poet Nizami Ganjavi.

Nizami’s 'Leyli and Majnoun' is a narrative poem based on a semi-historical Arab story from about the 7th-century poet Qays ibn Al-Mulawwah and his beloved Leyli bint Mahdi.

Dorri’s play, set 60 years ago in Iran, is a love story between a simple writer who comes to Tehran and falls in love with an actress.

Dorri is an Iranian playwright and director who has written and directed a number of plays, including 'The Farewell Waltz' and 'Untold Secrets of Old Sun of Alamut'.

He has written and/or directed some movies and series such as 'Help Me', 'Dead End', 'The Last Heist', 'Mirage', 'Sky's Key', and 'Border Passage', as well as some ifilm series, including 'Certified Copy' and 'Dirty Money'.
