Iran Cinema Celebration reveals chair

Latest edition of Iran Cinema Celebration announces veteran Iranian actor Ali Nasiriyan as chair of the event.

The awards ceremony that selects the best in Iranian movies over the past year will be presided over by the prominent Iranian actor, a local media report said Monday, quoting the Public Relations office of the event.

"It is with honor to announce the organizers of 20th Iran Cinema Celebration have chosen Ali Nasiriyan as the chair,” the PR media release read.

Nasiriyan began his acting career with theater in 1952.

He made his cinematic debut with ‘The Cow’ (1969), setting foot on the path to becoming one of the most renowned and popular Iranian actors.

He has appeared in numerous movies and series. His most notable performances are in the movies ‘Kamal-ol-Molk’ (1983), ‘Mirza Nowruz's Shoes’ (1985), ‘Captain Khorshid’ (1986), ‘Scent of Joseph’s Shirt’ (1995), ‘The Silent King’ (2003), 'Saturday Hunter' (2011), and 'Iran Burger' (2014).

He also played roles in the series 'Heads on Gallows’ (1984), ‘Hezar Dastan’ (1979-1987), 'The Wolves' (1986-1987), 'The Lost Paradise' (1996), 'Neighbors' (2000), 'Lighter than Darkness' (1999-2002), 'Floating in a Bubble' (2006), ‘The Forbidden Fruit’ (2007), 'Sheikh Baha'ee' (2003-2008), 'Mankind's Land' (2009), and 'Sparrow's Dream' (2012).

In 2002, Nasiriyan was honored as one of “Ever-lasting Names” in Theater and Film.

The previous edition of awards ceremony was held in Iranian capital city of Tehran on September 12 which is annually observed as National Day of Cinema in Iran.
