‘Iranian films overlooked in MSM’

Around 100 feature films are made in Iran each year, a number on a par with those of Britain without ample int’l coverage, The Economist quoted the media in its published article.

“The place of Iranian cinema in America [is] critically acclaimed, but largely overlooked in the mainstream,” The Economist wrote, adding Mr Farhadi stands as a recent exception emerging as Iran’s most successful cinematic export.

Asghar Farhadi has the chance to win his second Oscar for ‘The Salesman’, a continuation of his winning streak from his first Academy Award for Best Foreign Language Film in 2012 for ‘A Separation’.

On January 24, 2017, his second Oscar-nominated film, ‘The Salesman’ became an Academy Award candidate for Best Foreign Language Film.

This comes as Donald Trump signed an executive order barring Iranian nationals from travelling to America. In reaction to the Trump order, Farhadi announced his intention to boycott the Oscars ceremony, regardless of whether an exception was granted.

Donald Trump’s travel ban has caused reverberations in Hollywood and the rest of the international film community .
