Almost 2,000 Iranian short films have attended a large number of international events in Persian year 1396.
During the period of the Persian year 1396 (from March 21, 2017, to March 20, 2018), 1,967 Iranian short films, documentaries and animations took part at film events in 88 countries around the globe.
The result of participation of 567 shorts made by 486 filmmakers from Iran in global events include 375 awards and 128 nominations.
In animation section, 95 animated short films by 98 directors went to 695 worldwide film festivals and grabbed a total of 116 awards.
In documentary section, 51 titles by 46 documentarians competed at 69 festivals and received 17 awards.
In experimental section, 22 films by 23 filmmakers vied at 86 film events and bagged 13 awards.
In feature section, 399 films by 319 directors went to 118 festivals and won 229 awards.
Among the Iranian directors whose works participated at international events, some 114 female filmmakers sent their works to 428 events and brought home 86 awards.
'Retouch' by Kaveh Mazaheri, 'Gaze' by Farnoush Samadi, 'Animal' by Bahman and Bahram Ark, 'Lunch Time' by Alireza Qasemi, 'Light Sight' by Seyyed-Moslem Tabatabaee, 'Not Yet' by Arian Vazir-Daftari, 'Icky' by Parastou Kardgar, and 'The Servant' by Farnoush Abedi have been the most successful Iranian short titles in the global scenes.
The delivered statistics is calculated according to reviews of a large number of news agencies and professional short film portals. However, it is estimated that the actual participation number of Iranian short films in international events must be about 2,500.
