Slemani fest kicks off with Iran lineup

The 2018 edition of the Slemani International Film Festival in Iraq has kicked off with a lineup of Iranian films on board.

The inauguration ceremony was held on Wednesday October 10, 2018, with several Iraqi officials and authorities in attendance.

Some 122 films from 52 countries will vie for the top prizes in two main sections of Kurdish and World Cinema.

Being held under the motto of 'Heroines Defend Humanity', a collection of recent movies selected from Iran cinema is set to be showcased at the Slemani event.

The Iranian lineup includes titles such as ‘Beyond the Clouds’ by Majid Majidi, ‘No Date, No Signature’ by Vahid Jalilvand, ‘Bystander’ by Sheyda Kashi and ‘Golnesa’ by Sattar Chamani-Gol.

The international documentary competition subsection of the event will also play host to two Iranian documentaries titled ‘Song of God’ by Aref Mohammadi and ‘I Stay’ by Fatemeh Marzban.

'Take Me Home' by the late legendary Iranian director Abbas Kiarostami, '76 Minutes and 15 Seconds with Abbas Kiarostami' by Seifollah Samadian and 'The Paternal House' by Kianoush Ayyari are among the Iranian films to be screened at the 'Special Screen' section.

The Slemani International Film Festival is currently underway and will last until October 16, 2018, in Iraqi Kurdistan region of Sulaymaniyah.
