Brazil FRICINE to screen 3 Iran titles

The 7th edition of the FRICINE in Brazil has set to screen three titles from Iran.

The Iranian titles include ‘Empty View’, ‘Tanafos’, and ‘Essence’.

Made by Ali Zare-Qanatnowi, ‘Empty View’ depicts an old woman looking for the return of her missing son from the battle ground of an imposed war.

The animation was designed and produced during two years. It combines the 2D and 3D animation techniques for the first time in Iranian cinema on such scale.

It has won the best animation award at the UK Monthly Film Festival, Best Animation award from the December edition of the Los Angeles Film Awards in the US, Best Short Film Award at the 6th Seoul Guro International Kids Film Festival in South Korea, and an award at the 8th Amsterdam Film Festival in the Netherlands.

Set to be screened at the 2018 London City Film Awards in the UK, the animated piece has also won two awards at the 3rd Best Short Fest in Canada and the 3rd Great Message International Film Festival in India.

Nominated for best animation award at the 2018 Asians on Film Festival in the US and the 4th Bengal's International Film Festival in India, ‘Empty View’ has also gone on screen at the 13th Athens Animfest in Greece and will be screened at the 7th Southampton International Film Festival in the UK.

Zare-Qanatnowi's other animation ‘Essence’ is a 1-minute 2018 production to go on screen at animation section of the FRICINE.

The 13-minute ‘Tanafos’ directed by Farshid Ayyoubinejad will also represent Iran at the fiction section of the event.

‘Empty View’ is the story of a mother waiting for her son to come back home from war. ‘Essence’ has been inspired by the music of German composer Richard Strauss, with a focus on depicting human beings as an endless galaxy in the universe.

Founded in 2006, the FRICINE's aim is to promote films, capable of stimulating the public's perception of environmental questions, and stressing the urgency of preserving nature and the ecological, cultural and touristic values.

The 7th FRICINE (International SocioEnvironmental Film Festival of Nova Friburgo) is slated for October 30-November 4, 2018, in Rio de Janeiro, Brazil.
