Cineastes have celebrated the 84th birthday of Jamshid Mashayekhi, an imminent figure in Iran cinema, at the Iranian Artists Forum (IAF) on 27 November.
Managing-Director of the IAF Majid Rajabi-Memar and cinema fans attended the ceremony to honor Mashayekhi.
Some of the attendees included Manouchehr Esmaeili, Reza Kianian, Reza Rouygari, Alireza Shojanouri, Alireza Tabesh, Malek-Jahan Khazaee, Reza Yazdani, Mohammad Shiri, Amir Pourya and Marjaneh Golchin.
Masoud Kimiaee, who could not attend the ceremony because of illness, sent a note in praise of Mashayekhi which was recited.
Rajabi-Memar spoke at the ceremony and said “We are so pleased to see Mr. Mashayekhi in good health. Thanks God he regained his health.”
Amir Pourya referred to persona of the honoree in Iranian cinema and said Mashayekhi have always played the role of old men with white hair and young actors should pay attention to the way he created the personality of a high-spirited father.
Then Reza Kianian talked about the entrance of Mashayekhi to cinema and wished him a long and healthy life.
Manouchehr Esmaeili, the famous Iranian voice actor, who was one of the speakers, praised Mashayekhi and recalled an old memory of representing him in a movie by Masoud Kimiaee.
Reza Dorostkar, an Iranian cinema critic, also admired Mashayekhi and said he has always played the role of a steady father who burdens the hardship of life.
Mashayekhi, then, went on the stage and thanked Hamid Kaviani for holding the ceremony and recited a poem in praise of artists by Hafiz. Then he blew the candles and cut the cake. At the end of the ceremony Hamid Kaviani's ‘Dead End of Trust’ was screened.
Mashayekhi's roles in the historical TV series such as 'Kamal-ol-Molk' and 'Hezar Dastan' exhibit his acting ability.
He has appeared in numerous movies, including 'The Cow', ‘Retribution’, 'The Fateful Day', 'A House on the Water', 'Thirteen 59 (1980)' and 'Cheque'.
Mashayekhi has also taken parts in several TV series such as 'Autumn in the Desert', 'Imam Ali', 'The Lost Paradise', 'Mother', 'Tabriz in Fog' and 'It's All There'.
