Tehran to hold Salinger’s 100th birthday

Tehran’s Book City Cultural Center has scheduled to celebrate 100th birthday of American Author J. D. Salinger.

The center has invited fans of American author J. D. Salinger, widely known for his novel ‘The Catcher in the Rye’, to take part at the event titled ‘One Day with Salinger’ on January 1, 2019.

The event organizer, Homeira Afshar, said the Salinger Day in Iran will be held similar to the one organized in the US by the Little, Brown and Company publishing house.

“The aim of organizing the event is to review Salinger’s works and hold discussions on his style of writing, the simplicity and complexity of it, but of course about his isolation and secretive life, too,” she added.

Afshar also noted “We will specifically talk in length about ‘The Catcher in the Rye’, but will also discuss his other works, such as ‘Franny and Zooey’ and his short stories.”

‘One Day with Salinger’ will be held from 16:30 to 19:30 (local time) on Tuesday concurrent with the author’s 100th birthday.

Born on January 1, 1919, Jerome David Salinger was an American writer.

Following his early success publishing short stories and ‘The Catcher in the Rye’, Salinger led a very private life for more than a half-century.
