Germany to host Iran’s ‘Magralen’

Short film ‘Magralen’, directed by Maryam Zarei, will take part in the 2019 edition of Berlin International Film Festival, also known as Berlinale, in Germany.

Written by Payam Saeedi, the film will take part in the Short Films Generation Kplus section of the festival.

The Iranian-Canadian co-production tells the story of a family that lives in a car cemetery. The family’s young girl, who is blind, has along with her elder brother made a car in the automobile graveyard in which they spend their days. “An incident disrupts the family's shaky order. Children who are struggling to cope with that incident are trying to find their own way. The elder brother tries to portray the bitter reality in a different way to his sister,” the film’s synopsis reads.

‘Magralen’ would be the second film to represent Iran in the German event.

Earlier reports said that short movie ‘Tattoo’, by Farhad Delaram, is scheduled to attend the upcoming edition of the gala.

Founded in 1951, the Berlin International Film Festival is one of the world’s leading film events.

The 69 edition of the festival will take place on February 7-17 in the German capital, Berlin.
