‘Axing’ actress garners IFFA award

Iranian actress Sara Bahrami has won the Best Actress award for her appearance in the movie ‘Axing’ at the 8th Iranian Film Festival Australia (IFFA).

‘Axing’ is Behrouz Shoeibi’s third directorial offering after his successful movies ‘The Corridor’ and ‘Cyanide’.

A synopsis for ‘Axing’ reads “there is nothing harder in life than seeing someone you love decided to be alone. You enjoy seeing her and hearing her voice, but she has closed the doors and chosen loneliness in your place.... There is nothing harder in life than being left alone. You see your loved ones and you love them, but they all deny you. They closed doors on you and you are alone. Loneliness is a swamp.”

In addition to Bahrami, notable stars such as Mahnaz Afshar, Jamshid Hashempour, Hadi Hejazifar, Negar Abedi, and Amin Hayaee are among the film cast.

Produced by Seyyed-Mahmoud Razavi, ‘Axing’ scored two Crystal Simorgh awards at the 36th Fajr Film Festival in Iran.

Born in the central Iranian city of Isfahan in 1982, Bahrami has studied Theater at university.

She has acted in series such as ‘Euphrates’, ‘Like a Nightmare’, ‘Parvaneh’, and ‘The Recluse’.

Bahrami has also appeared in a number of movies, including ‘Gita’, ‘Teheran’, ‘A Simple Romance’, ‘Italy Italy’, ‘A House on 41st Street’ and ‘I am Diego Maradona’.

The IFFA intends to showcase a diverse range of the best, interesting, and current Iranian cinema. The festival introduces Iranian culture to Australians and provides a better cultural understanding between the two countries.
