Shanghai Filmfest nominates ‘As I lay Dying'

The 22nd Shanghai International Film Festival (SIFF) has nominated ‘As I lay Dying’ from Iran.

Directed by Mostafa Sayyari, the movie won two noms for best film and best cinematography from the Shanghai Filmfest which is one of the largest film festivals in East Asia.

‘As I lay Dying’ will be screened on “Asian New Talent Awards” section of the event which is dedicated to providing opportunities for rising filmmakers and film works to display themselves on the international stage

The film is the director's first feature-length production with a cast team made of Nader Fallah, Elham Korda, Majid Aqakarimi, Vahid Rad, and Mohammad Rabbani.

The 73-minute feature film had its international premiere at the 75th Venice Film Festival in Italy.

‘As I lay Dying’ is a free adaptation of the classic William Faulkner novel of the same name.

Sayyari tells us the story of four siblings - three brothers, accompanying their only sister - as they drive to the south of Iran with their newly-deceased father's body. Their father's will demands that his body be buried in a small, faraway village, a place none of his children have ever heard of.

Founded in 1993, SIFF focuses on awards, markets, forums and film exhibitions so as to build an international platform, and promote the development of the Chinese film festival.

The upcoming edition of the festival is slated for June 15-24, 2019 in China.
