Jamshid Mashayekhi honored in Tehran

A ceremony commemorating the late actor Jamshid Mashayekhi was held in Tehran yesterday.

The ceremony, held at the Iranian Academy of Arts, was attended by many of Iran’s film industry veterans and included a photo exhibition along with a performance by the Iranian National Orchestra.

Notable among the audience were filmmaker Masoud Kimiai, producer Manouchehr Shahsavari, and actors Iraj Rad and Ali Nasiriyan.

Filmmaker Masoud Kimiai expressed his sentiments on the late actor, saying: “I am not able to speak about people who are with us and whose body has only left us. All I can say is that I am proud to have worked with him in three films.”

In his statement, Iraj Rad talked about his memories with the late actor.

“He would always show up to the scene with love, because what took place on stage was different than what would take place in real life. If we act in real life, we’re looking to hide a reality, but on the scene we’re acting to express a reality.”

The ceremony ended with a performance by the Iranian National Orchestra followed by a photo exhibition of the late actor.

Born in 1934, Mashayekhi who left his theater studies unfinished officially began his acting career in 1970.

Mashayekhi's debut movie 'Brick and Mirror' in 1965 did not keep him away from being involved in theater as he kept playing roles on stage for years and remained faithful to the fine art.

He has been honored with the First Grade Order of Art and Culture.

His roles in historical TV series such as 'Kamal-ol-Molk' and 'Hezar Dastan' exhibit his acting ability.

He appeared in numerous movies, including 'The Cow', 'Retribution', 'The Fateful Day', 'A House on the Water', 'Thirteen 59 (1980)' and 'Cheque'.

Mashayekhi also took part in several TV series such as 'Autumn in the Desert', 'Imam Ali', 'The Lost Paradise', 'Mother', 'Tabriz in Fog' and 'It's All There'.

He died on April 2, 2019 at the age of 85 after a long battle with illness.
