Iran’s Cinema House honors Kiarostami

Iran Cinema House has held a commemoration ceremony in honor of the late Iranian filmmaker Abbas Kiarostami’s birth anniversary.

Held in Tehran on Saturday evening, a number of Iranian filmmakers and artists attended the ceremony.

Tehran’s E1 Gallery has also commemorated the late-great Iranian filmmaker on his birth anniversary by organizing an exhibition titled ‘Travel to the Morning’, from June 21 to July 5, 2019.

In addition, all cinema halls in Iran honored the birth anniversary by screening a short film in memory of Kiarostami and a documentary on his life and career on June 22.

Kiarostami has won many awards, including the Palme d'Or at the Cannes Film Festival in 1997 for ‘Taste of Cherry’.

He is mostly known as a screenwriter, film editor, art director and producer as well as a poet, photographer, painter, illustrator, and graphic designer.

The veteran Iranian filmmaker who passed away on July 4, 2016, following a heart attack at the age of 76, was honored at more than 300 film events around the world.
