Golden Apricot to screen Iran’s ‘Umbra’

The 16th edition of the Golden Apricot Yerevan International Film Festival (GAIFF) in Armenia has set to screen Iranian short ‘Umbra’.

Directed by Saeed Jafarian, the film will be screened at the short film competition section of the Armenian event.

‘Umbra’ is about a young woman who realizes a few minutes after midnight that she is alone. Worried, she goes out in the darkness of the streets.

It has previously taken part at the Cinéfondation section of the 71st Cannes Film Festival, the 2018 Vila do Conde film festival in Portugal, the 17th Silhouette Film Festival in France, and the 42nd Toronto International Short Film Festival in Canada.

The Iranian short film has also gone on screen at the 2018 Batumi International Art House Film Festival in Georgia as well as the 37th Uppsala International Short Film Festival in Sweden.

The short went on screen at the 27th St. Louis Film Festival in the US, the 14th MEDFILM Festival in Italy, the 2019 Kyiv International Film Festival "Molodist" in Ukraine, the 2019 Seattle International Film Festival in the US, the 8th Mikrofilm Short Festival in Spain, and the 25th Palm Springs Film Festival in the US.

The GAIFF is an annual film festival held in Yerevan, Armenia. It was founded in 2004 with the co-operation of the Golden Apricot Fund for Cinema Development, the Armenian Association of Film Critics and Cinema Journalists.

The objectives of the GAIFF are to present new works by the film directors and producers in Armenia and foreign cinematographers of Armenian descent and to promote creativity and originality in the area of cinema and video art.

The 16th GAIFF will be held on July 7-14, 2019.
