‘Mr. and Ms. Sangi’ actor talks to ifilm

In an exclusive interview with ifilm, ‘Mr. and Ms. Sangi’ actor Kambiz Dirbaz has talked about his interest to appear on films, series produced for TV transmission.

ifilm English has conducted an interview with Kambiz Dirbaz who played role in Mr. and MS. Sangi series recently aired by the channel. Here is a selected part translation of the interview originally taken in Persian.

ifilm: Kambiz Dirbaz is among those actors who is less criticized by the critics. This means that he is a good actor. But roles for cinematic works are less offered to you and your talent is not used by the filmmakers as it should be. You have not yet reached to the position that you should be in. Could you elaborate on that?

Kambiz Dirbaz: I always watch my own works and just see my weak points as well as my problems. I never like the role that I play for the first time and it is my friends’ kindness that look at me as good actor.

I have always said that acting is similar to the peak of mountain and actor is like a lover who climbs that mountain. Although he knows that he might never get to the peak to install the flag on top of it, he likes to go up. I know that I never get to the peak of acting to install my flag there because I know that acting has no peak. I feel that I will never reach to the point to say that I finally occupied the position that I was after.

I have to add that I succeeded to win Crystal Simorgh which is good for being boastful about. I have greater honor which is worthier than Crystal Simorgh and that honor is "people’s intention to watch my works". If people have no intention to watch my works, it will be impossible for me to be an actor and as a result I will be fired both from cinema and television.

ifilm: Why are you more active on TV works rather than cinematic works?

Kambiz Dirbaz: I love television a lot. Television is highly valued for me. Of course it does not mean that I reject offers of works made for cinema. During the last 2-3 years I found the role of the heroes that I loved and wished to act, in TV works. I have a taste for hero-centered scripts. During the last 2-3 years I have seen few hero-centered film scripts for cinematic productions.

Another reason for appearing in TV works more is that we have cities whose inhabitants can afford going to cinema but unfortunately there is no cinema in those cities. They have the right to watch A-class films, A-class acting, and good and exciting stories. That’s why TV is called magic box because in 45 minutes (time duration for an episode of a series) an actor can be the guest of the whole population of the country.

ifilm: This year you attended Fajr Film Festival by ‘Misunderstanding’. Could you please tell us a little bit about this movie?

Kambiz Dirbaz: When ‘Misunderstanding’ was offered to me, I looked at it as an opportunity and grasped it because it provided me the chance to work with great artists. Because of this I certainly accepted the role. It was long time that I was after such an opportunity. Basically, one of the philosophical points behind acting is that the actor should be after experiencing different worlds and different modes.
