Iranian ‘The Silhouettes’ wins in Czech Republic

Iranian-Filipino documentary ‘The Silhouettes’ has won an award at the 2019  Karlovy Vary International Film Festival (KVIFF) in Czech Republic.

Directed by Afsaneh Salari, the feature-length doc has succeeded to grab the ‘Docs In Progress’ award of the film event which is worth 5,000 Euros.

‘The Silhouettes’, that is a title in progress, is undergoing its editing stage in France at the moment. It is the story of an Afghan family who lives in Iran. They left Afghanistan 40 years ago to come and live in Iran.

 The film shows how the son of the family wants to move back to Afghanistan to live and work there, but his family does not approve.

The Karlovy Vary International Film Festival is the largest film festival in the Czech Republic and the most prestigious in Central and Eastern Europe.

It is one of the oldest A-list film festivals, a category it shares with the festivals of Cannes, Berlin, Venice, San Sebastian, Moscow, Montreal, Shanghai, and Tokyo.

Among filmmakers, buyers, distributors, sales agents, and journalists, KVIFF is considered as the most important event in all of Central and Eastern Europe.

Intended for both film professionals and the general public, the festival annually presents some 200 films from around the world, and regularly hosts famous and important filmmakers.

The 54th edition of the festival kicked off on June 28 and has been set to wrap up on July 6, 2019.
