Golden Apricot to screen Iran’s ‘Axing’

The 16th edition of the Golden Apricot Yerevan International Film Festival (GAIFF) in Armenia has set to screen Iranian feature ‘Axing’.

Directed by Behrouz Shoeibi and produced by Seyyed-Mahmoud Razavi, the social drama features a different narrative on how people confront addiction and drug abuse.

“There is nothing harder in life than seeing someone you love decide to be alone. You enjoy seeing her and hearing her voice, but she closed the doors and chooses loneliness in your place ... There is nothing harder in life than being left alone. You see your loved ones and you love them, but they all deny you. They closed doors on you and you are alone. Loneliness is a swamp,” a synopsis for the film read.

Actors such as Mahnaz Afshar, Sara Bahrami, Jamshid Hashempour, Hadi Hejazifar, Negar Abedi, Shadi Karamroudi, and Amin Hayaee are among the cast.

Written by Azita Irayee, the movie grabbed 10 nominations at the 36th Fajr Film Festival in Iran and scored two Crystal Simorgh awards at the event.

It went on screen at the 16th Chennai International Film Festival in India and brought the Best Actress award to its actress Sara Bahrami at the 8th Iranian Film Festival Australia.

The GAIFF is an annual film festival held in Yerevan, Armenia. It was founded in 2004 with the co-operation of the Golden Apricot Fund for Cinema Development, the Armenian Association of Film Critics and Cinema Journalists.

The GAIFF objectives are to present new works by the film directors and producers in Armenia and foreign cinematographers of Armenian descent and to promote creativity and originality in the area of cinema and video art.

The 16th GAIFF will be held on July 7-14, 2019.
