Italy to host Iranian animation

Iranian animation ‘The Fisherman and Spring’ is set to contend at the Lago Film Festival (LFF) in Italy.

Directed by Seyed Hassan Soltani, the animated piece will be screened as part of the ‘UNICEF KIDS’ section of the festival’s 15th annual event.

The ten-minute silent animation is based on a book with the same title written by author Mojgan Kalhor.

‘The Fisherman and Spring’ narrates the story of a fisherman, anxiously awaiting the arrival of spring, which seems to be taking longer than usual.

He then begins to weave blossoms in his cabin as he awaits the arrival of the new season until one day, upon looking outside, he notices a blossom and decides to head out for a closer look.

As he gets closer, he notices a large mountain of ice has blocked spring from coming.

Soltani’s animation made its first international appearance along with five other Iranian films at the 59th edition of Zlin Film Festival in the Czech Republic.

Founded in 2005, the LFF is an annual international film festival held in the Italian lake town of Revine Lago in the Province of Treviso, hosting short films, documentaries, and screenplays from around the world.

The 15th annual LFF is set to be held July 19-27, 2019 with ‘The Fisherman and Spring’ scheduled to go on screen July 22nd and July 25th.
