Iran’s ‘Magical’ to vie in Italy

Iran’s short ‘Magical’ has been set to compete at the upcoming edition of the Pop Corn Festival del Corto in Italy.

Directed by Bahador Adab, ‘Magical’ will be screened at the 3rd edition of the Italian event which is set to kick off next week.

It tells the story of Sahand, a young guy with down syndrome who lives in a rehab center. He is going to the market to sell the gigs he has made as he usually does to buy what he likes. After selling all his gigs, he comes across a seller, selling "magical markers". A marker that brings whatever you draw into reality by the next morning, as claims the seller.

Sahand buys one and runs away, he only comes back a few hours later to buy another one, but he doesn't have any money left as he spent all of it on the first marker. He somehow gets the second one and runs back to the rehab center. On the way back the viewer sees some of his drawings and getting back to the rehab center, s/he sees what Sahand needed the marker for.

‘Magical’ has won the best short film award at the 9th London Iranian Film Festival.

The film brings to three the number of Iranian short films vying at the Italian festival.

Earlier reports said that Mohammad Bakhshi’s ‘Are you Volleyball?!’ and Ahmad Seyyed-Keshmiri’s ‘Taste of Berry’ made it to the event as well.

The Pop Corn Festival del Corto is a short film competition open to all national and international video makers.

The 3rd edition of the festival will be held on July 25-28, 2019.
