Directed by Mohammad Bakhshi, Iranian short ‘Are You Volleyball?!’ has been selected to compete at the first edition of the Children’s Rights Film Festival (CRF) in Lebanon.
The short film presents a group of Arabic-speaking asylum seekers who try to make their way to the border in an English speaking country, but they can’t keep going.
They get into a conflict with border guards every day until a deaf-mute child becomes a catalyst for better communication between the two sides.
The 15-minute short has participated at several global events and has so far won a large number of awards, including Best Film Prize from the Al-Nahj Film Festival in Iraq, Best Film and Best Screenplay awards at the Short Film Competition section at the US Forum on Law, Culture & Society, Best Film award at the BCN Sports Film Festival in Spain, and Best Editor award at the Bucharest ShortCut Cinefest in Romania.
The CRF is a week-long event which emphasizes on the importance of the development of children’s personality and the necessity of a child’s upbringing in a supportive environment.
The first edition of the CRF is slated for November 15-23.
