Filming for award-winning actor/director Niki Karimi’s latest feature has reached the halfway mark.
‘Atabay’, directed and produced by Karimi, began filming in the historic northwestern Iranian city of Khoy last month.
The shooting phase of the actor/director’s fifth feature film is set to last until sometime in early September.
Although details on the film’s plot have yet to be released, the screenplay for ‘Atabay’ was written by ‘Midday Adventures’ star Hadi Hejazifar, based on an outline by Niki Karimi.
Starring in the film will be ‘Huge Problems’ star Javad Ezzati, ‘No Pain, No Gain’ star Sahar Dolatshahi, Danial Noroush, and Hadi Hejazifar among others.
Niki Karimi began her filmmaking debut in 2001 with the documentary ‘To Have or Not to Have’, followed by feature films ‘One Night’, ‘A Few Days Later’, ‘Final Whistle’, and ‘Night Shift’, all of which have received awards on a national as well as international level.
Since her first cinematic appearance in 1989’s ‘Temptation’, Karimi has been a regular in Iranian cinema, appearing in movies also featured on ifilm such as ‘The Bride’, ‘Scent of Joseph’, ‘A Lunatic Fled the Cage’, ‘Music Box’, and the television series ‘Kimia’.
The famed actor/director has also appeared on the jury committee of many international film festivals including the Berlin Film Festival in Germany as well as the Cannes Film Festival in France.
