Iran box office top hits revealed

The list of bestselling films at the Iranian box office chart has been released.

According to the Cinematicket official website, the bestselling films of Iranian domestic cinema theaters for August 2-9 are as follows:

‘Night of the Full Moon’, directed by Narges Abyar, (Weekly gross 7,513,690,000 Rials, Total gross, 164,532,440,000 Rials).

The movie is about Abdul-Hamid Rigi, the younger brother of Abdul-Malik Rigi who was a notorious terrorist and former leader of the Jundallah terrorist group in southeastern Iran.

‘X Large’, directed by Mohsen Tavakoli, (Weekly gross 6,637,810,000 Rials, Total gross, 41,245,400,000 Rials).

The movie narrates the story of 3 contemporary young adults who after being released from prison start following their dreams but some unexpected happenings occur for them.

‘Texas 2’, directed by Masoud Atyabi, (Weekly gross 6,418,750,000 Rials, Total gross 230,726,200,000 Rials).

“In order to make his dream come true, Bahram adopts a Brazilian child to increase his chances of moving there. The next step which involves a money transfer to Sasan in order to complete the transaction is where it all begins,” a short synopsis of the flick reads.

‘Castle of Dreams’, directed by Seyed Reza Mir-Karimi, (Weekly gross 5,818,830,000 Rials, Total gross 13,012,430,000 Rials)

A brief synopsis for ‘Castle of Dreams’ (Qasr-e Shirin) reads, “Jalal Moradi, a 42-year-old father of two, kills a family in an accident. In the court of law, the murder is recognized as accidental killing without intent.

After getting out of prison, he leaves his wife and kids and moves to another city. Two years later, he must go back to his home town as his wife is brain-dead.”

‘The Warden’, directed by Nima Javadi, (Weekly gross 4,978,920,000 Rials, Total gross, 126,162,490,000 Rials).

The flick depicts an old prison in the late 1960s in southern Iran to be evacuated as it is close to the city’s airport which is under development.

The head of the prison, Major Nemat Jahed, and his officers are in the midst of transferring the prisoners to the new facility.
