Spain to host award-winning Iranian doc

Award-winning Iranian documentary ‘Lotus’ has been selected to compete at the 8th Nature and Cinema Exhibition “ForadCamp 2019”, in Spain.

Written and directed by Mohammad-Reza Vatandoust, ForadCamp 2019 will be the documentary’s 17th international film festival appearance.

Coordinated by the Association of Independent Documentary Filmmakers (INDOC), the festival will be hosting 17 films from Argentina, Belgium, Czech Republic, Germany, Iran, France, Netherlands, Romania, South Korea, Spain, and Sweden.

‘Lotus’ depicts the story of an old woman no longer able to visit the grave of her martyred son following the construction of a local dam submerging parts of the land under 80 meters of water, turning the piece of land her son was buried in into an Island.

The highly acclaimed documentary takes viewers through the moving story of over a decade of suffering, struggles, and multiple failed attempts endured by the old mother whose only wish is to travel to the Island once again to visit her son’s grave.

Vatandoust’s documentary has been featured in many international film festivals including 22nd Ji.hlava International Documentary Film Festival in Czech Republic, the 21st Cervino Cinemountain International Film Festival in Italy, the 24th LA Film Festival in the US, and the UK’s 25th Sheffield International Documentary Festival.

Among the documentary’s accolades are the Artistic Vision Award at the 16th Big Sky Documentary Film Festival in the US as well as the Best Director award at the 18th Beirut International Film Festival in Lebanon.

The 8th Nature and Cinema Exhibition “FordaCamp 2019” aims to connect innovative independent cinema with the natural environment.

The event will be held October 19-20, 2019.
