Iran auteur to jury in Turkey

Iranian filmmaker and screenwriter Nima Javidi is set to serve as juror at the 2nd edition of International Amity Short Film Festival to be held in Turkey.

Nima Javidi’s name has appeared at the jury grid of the international competition section of the Turkish film event. Directors and actors from Turkey and Bosnia and Herzegovina make the rest of the jurors.

Born in 1980, Javidi started filmmaking with a short film titled ‘Marathon Champion’ (2000). The first feature film that he directed, ‘Melbourne’, was a total success as it was premiered at the critic’s week in the 2014 Venice Film Festival.

The film was then screened at almost 60 international film festivals, the result of which was some 12 awards, including Best Film award at the 2014 Cairo Film Festival in Egypt and Best Script award at the 2014 Stockholm Film Festival in Sweden.

Javidi is a member of Asia Pacific Academy Awards and was a member of jury at the 54th Gijon Film Festival in Spain.

His latest Fajr award-winning blockbuster ‘The Warden’ has been warmly welcomed by Iranian cinema goers.  

It is worth mentioning that ‘Sheida’ director Kamal Tabrizi served the jury panel of the first edition of Amity Film Festival. Iranian movies ‘The Sea Swells’ by Amir Qolami and ‘Hedieh’ by Sahar Sotoudeh were also among the top winners of the previous edition of the festival.

According to the festival’s director, a total of 800 titles from 80 countries submitted works and the festival is to “reflect Turkey's new friendly relations with Africa and the Middle East.”

The International Amity Short Film Festival intends to share with the audience all sorts of film forms that points directly or indirectly to the relationship between humanity and the universe that is build on the friendship.

The screening event is scheduled for December 13-15, 2019 in Istanbul. The regular deadline as announced by the festival’s official website is to be October 15, 2019.
