13 Iranian films vying at Iraqi fest

A lineup of thirteen Iranian films are competing at several categories of the 4th edition of the Slemani International Film Festival currently underway in Iraq.

‘Beloved’ directed by Yasser Talebi, Farhad Varahram’s ‘Wedding of Zinat’s Son’ as well as ‘Chauka’ by Arash Kamali-Sarvestani and Behrouz Bouchani are taking part at the Documentary Film (International) category of the 2019 Slemani.

Meanwhile, ‘A Dance for Death’ by Zaniar Azizi, ‘Jalil and Khalil’ made by Rouhollah Akbari, Osman Mohammadi’s ‘White File’ and ‘Way of Living’ by Fatemeh Marzban are competing at the Kurdish Documentary Film section.

The festival’s Kurdish Short Film section is screening ‘He’ by Saeed Payam-Hosseini and ‘Showan’ directed by Bijan Zarrin.

The lineup also includes ‘Umbra’ by Saeed Jafarian and Armin Pourmohamad’s ‘Rhino’ which are competing at the Short Film (International) and the New Talent sections, respectively.

‘Dreams in the Depths’ by Reza Mohammadi is also among the Iranian films which have been chosen to be displayed at the Animation Film section of the Iraqi event.

‘Castle of Dreams’ by Reza Mirkarimi is vying at the festival’s Feature Film (International & National) section which sees Iranian filmmaker Pouran Derakhshandeh on its jury panel.

The 4th Slemani International Film Festival opened on October 1 in Sulaymaniyah in Iraq's northern semi-autonomous Kurdistan region and is set to come to an end on October 7, 2019.
