‘Elephantbird’ to go on Czech screen

Iranian-Afghan film ‘Elephantbird’ has been chosen to compete at the 2019 edition of the Brno 16 International Short Film Festival in the Czech Republic.

‘Elephantbird’, directed by Amir Masoud Soheili, will take part at the 60th edition of the Czech festival which is set to open on Wednesday.

“The last wish of an old Afghan man is to give his elephant-bird (turkey) to his grandchild, but this simple wish is hard to realize,” a synopsis for the film reads.

‘Elephantbird’ has previously attended the 23rd AVANCA - International Meeting of Cinema, TV, Video and Multimedia in Portugal and the 14th Batumi International Art-House Film Festival in Georgia.

It is currently taking part at the Sedicicorto International Film Festival which is underway in Italy.

Earlier reports said that Iranian short film 'Trap' by Shirin Ekhlasi will vie at the Brno 16.

The Brno 16 is “one of the oldest film festivals in the Czech Republic and has been going on uninterrupted since 1960,” the festival’s website reads, noting that the event is also “one of the oldest short film festivals in the world”.

The 60th edition of the Brno 16 will take place on October 9-12, 2019.
