‘Am I a Wolf?’ competing in Romania

The 14th Animest International Animation Film Festival in Romania has been playing host to Iranian animation ‘Am I a Wolf?’.

Directed by Amir-Houshang Moeen, the animation is vying at the short animations competition section of the event.

Based on a fantasy book by Afsaneh Shabannejad, the animation is a recreation of the classic fable of ‘The Wolf and the Lamb’.

It tells the story of some students who are performing a theater called 'The Wolf and the Seven Little Goats'. Everybody has a role.

They are totally getting carried away by their roles in a way that the border between reality and theatrical performance is now hardly realized.

Meanwhile, the child acting as the wolf in the story is scripted to be defeated. That makes him feel lonely and annoyed.

As he takes his role too serious, a bit of chaos startles the group. In the end, the presence of other children and his friends takes him out of the mood.

‘Am I A Wolf?’ has won the Grand Prize of Light of ASIA at the 15th Indie-AniFest Korea Independent Animation Film Festival and the grand prix of the 12th Paris International Film Festival in France.

The Animest International Animation Film Festival is the only festival in Romania dedicated to animated films. Founded in 2006, it gathers films from all over the world, in six competitive categories both for short and feature films, according to the event’s website.

The Animest is an Oscar-qualifying festival. The recipient of the Animest Trophy is eligible for consideration in the Animated Short Film category of the Academy Awards.

The 14th Animest has been slated for October 4-13, 2019 in Bucharest.
