‘The Last Fiction’ qualified for Oscar

Iran top-rated animated film ‘The Last Fiction’ by Ashkan Rahgozar has been eligible for the 92nd Academy Awards.

Being one of the industry-leading animations in Iran cinema history, ‘The Last Fiction’ has made into the list of the toon hopefuls to vie for the final five nominees in the Animated Feature Film Oscar category along with 32 features.  

Films submitted in the Animated Feature Film category also qualify for Academy Awards in other categories, including Best Picture.

The 120-minute animation is based on the story of 'Zahhak', a tale from an Iranian national epic "The Shahnameh" (Book of Kings), written by Iranian poet Abolqasem Ferdowsi.

The film won recognition and was presented as one of the best ongoing projects at the Annecy International Animation Film Festival in France.

It was also invited to the Marché du Film (lit. Film Market), which is the business counterpart of the Cannes Film Festival and one of the largest film markets in the world.

‘The Last Fiction’ has gone on screen at a number of global film events, including the 12th Asia Pacific Screen Awards in Australia.

The long list of the animation’s accolades goes on with the best animated feature film award at the 2019 San Diego International Kids' Film Festival in the US, best animation award at the third Southern Cone International Film Festival in Chile and best music award the 2018 Bucheon International Animation Festival in South Korea.

Nominations for the 92nd Academy Awards will be announced on Monday, January 13, 2020 and the Oscars will be presented on February 9, 2020 at the Dolby Theatre at Hollywood & Highland Center in Hollywood, California.
