Iran’s ‘The Pattern’ to go to Banja Luka

The 2019 edition of the Banjaluka International Animated Film Festival in Bosnia and Herzegovina has scheduled to screen Iranian short animation ‘The Pattern’.

Directed by Azad Jannati, the 7-minute animation is inspired by the real events pertaining to the 1988 chemical attack of Halabja, Iraq.

The film captures the last moments of a traditional rug being woven, as the rug weaver reflects on her feelings and what she has been through; although in reality not all the patterns in her mind have made it to the rug.

Jannati is an independent animator and filmmaker based in Sanandaj, Iran. He earned his BFA in filmmaking in 2004 and directed his first short film ‘Trinity’ that same year.

He has since worked as an animator in numerous projects. ‘The Pattern’ is his second short film.

Launched in 1971, the Banjaluka International Animated Film Festival was the first of its kind in Yugoslavia, and while it has changed over the years it has remained focused on its love for all things animated.

The 2019 edition of the festival is slated for October 24-28, 2019 in the Bosnian city of Banja Luka.
