Two Iranian films awarded in US

Iranian shorts 'Watercolor Girl' and 'It Rains for You' have been awarded at the American Golden Picture International Film Festival in the US.

'Watercolor Girl', directed by Siamak Kashef-Azar, won the Best Fiction Short Film - Honorable Mention and Best Cinematography - Honorable Mention at the October edition of the event.

"At a time when we are busy with virtual relationships, there are some instances of love nearby that we are unaware of and it will be too late too soon," a synopsis for 'Watercolor Girl' reads.

Arash Sadeqi, the film’s Cinematographer, noted that the film was produced on a very tight budget.

Meanwhile, Mohammad-Mehdi Delkhasteh’s 'It Rains for You' won the Best First Time Filmmaker award at the same edition of the festival.

“The yellow leaves do not fall because of autumn; you are supposed to pass this alley, so they want to carpet your path … Sparrows do not sing out of habit, they are training to sing to welcome you,” the film’s plot summary reads.

The American Golden Picture International Film Festival is “a yearly event structured in monthly contests”, the festival’s website reads, adding “The physical live screening of the "American Golden Picture International Film Festival" happens just once every year with an award ceremony in front of the audience.”

The festival’s judges in “each month will select the films, give the best one an award, then for yearly screening they will choose the best of the best among all the monthly winners for the physical annual live screening,” according to the website.
