US children’s fest to host Iranian anim

Iranian short animation ‘Am I a Wolf?’ is set to be featured at the 36th edition of the Chicago International Children’s Film Festival in the US state of Illinois this week.

Directed by Amir-Houshang Moein, the screening of the short animated piece is scheduled for this Friday, November 8.

Based on a book by Afsaneh Shabannejad, ‘Am I a Wolf?’ is the recreation of a classic Iranian fable named ‘The Wolf and the Lamb’.

The short animation depicts the story of a group of students performing a play based on the classic fable. As the students engage deeper into their roles, they become carried away to a point where they can hardly differentiate between reality and their theatrical performance.

In the mean time, the child who plays the role of the wolf and is supposed to be defeated according to the script, feels lonely and annoyed due to the negative aspect of his role. He begins taking his role a little too seriously, creating bit of chaos in the group. In the end, however, his friends and fellow actors ease him out of the atmosphere.

The 8-minute animation has been screened and awarded at numerous international film festivals, namely the Media Arts Festival in Japan, the Paris International Animation Film Festival in France, and the Indie-AniFest in South Korea.

In its most recent international appearance, ‘Am I a Wolf?’ attended the 62nd International Leipzig Festival for Documentary and Animated Film – DOK Leipzig in Germany, winning the festival’s Golden Dove for Best Animated Film.

The Western Hemisphere’s oldest children’s film festival, the Chicago International Film Festival also happens to be the world’s first and largest Oscar qualifying children’s film festival.

The 36th edition of the event is currently underway until Nov. 10 in the US city of Chicago, IL.
