China to host ‘Copper Notes of a Dream’

The 2nd edition of the Hainan Island International Film Festival (HIIFF) in China has scheduled to screen ‘Copper Notes of a Dream’ by Iranian filmmaker.

Made by Reza Farahmand and produced by Morteza Shabani, the documentary tells the story of Mallouk, a ten year old boy who collects the copper wire along with his friends.

They gather the wire from homes which were demolished during war and sell the collection in order to make a living.

Their passion for the pursuit of a childhood dream, however, lightens the warmth of hope in their hearts, enabling them to find happiness among the ruins.

‘Copper Notes of a Dream’ has been screened at a number of global events, including the 13th Asia Pacific Screen Awards (APSA) in Australia, the 11th DMZ International Documentary Film Festival in South Korea, and the 15th Camden International Film Festival in the US.

The film will also vie at the 22nd Olympia International Film Festival for Children and Young People in Greece in December 2019.

The HIIFF is a film festival in Sanya, Hainan, China. Jackie Chan is the promotional ambassador. The 1st edition of the festival was attended by international film personalities, including Turkish director Nuri Bilge Ceylan, Bollywood star Aamir Khan, and Hollywood stars such as Johnny Depp, Nicolas Cage and Mads Mikkelsen, along with Chan.

This year, ten ‘Golden Coconut Awards’ will be given out across three categories of films: feature-length, feature documentaries, and fictional shorts.

Prizes will be presented for best picture, best director, best actor, best actress, best screenplay, best artistic contribution, best children’s picture, special jury prize, best documentary and best short film, according to Variety.

The 2nd HIIFF will be held on December 1-8, 2019.
