Iranian-Afghan feature film ‘Hava, Maryam, Ayesha’ has garnered the Best Actress Award at the 2019 Asian World Film Festival (AWFF) in the US.
The award was presented to Arezou Ariapour, Fereshta Afshar and Hasiba Ebrahimi.
Directed by Sahra Karimi, the movie narrates the story of “three Afghan women from different social backgrounds, living in Kabul, who are facing a big challenge in their lives”.
Hava is a pregnant housewife whose only happiness in life is talking to her seven-month unborn baby. Somewhere else, Maryam is an educated news anchor who is trying to get rid of her betrayer husband. Ayesha is a teenager whose mother had an arranged marriage. The girl has always wished to fall in love and marry her beloved, but she is forced to marry her cousin.
They are the women who decide to hold their fate in their hands for the first time in their life.
The film will be screened in early December in Iran.
AWFF brings the best of Asian World cinema to Los Angeles to draw greater attention to the professional filmmakers of the region.
The event is a great opportunity for people who love cinema, especially foreign and independent films.
The fest was slated for November 6-14, 2019.
