The 11th edition of the Iran Independent Animation Celebration has picked ‘Tangle’ as the best animated short movie of the year.
The celebration was held at the Abbas Kiarostami Hall of the Farabi Cinema Foundation in Tehran on Thursday.
Directed by Maliheh Gholamzadeh, ‘Tangle’ won three main awards, including the best director award and the award of the Association Internationale du Film d’Animation (ASIFA).
The animation is a war story narrating the separation of people from their homeland due to war and the subsequent crisis. It depicts some people who lose their homes in wars and are forced to leave all their memories and loved ones behind.
‘Tangle’ has taken part at several global events, including the 10th We Like 'Em Short Film Festival and the 45th Seattle International Film Festival in the US, the 16th Sedicicorto International Film Festival in Italy, the 11th Wimbledon International Short Film Festival in the UK, and the 15th Early Bird International Student Film Festival in Bulgaria where it received the Best Animation award.
Samaneh Shojaee’s short animation ‘Gray Body’ received two awards. It won the best animated effects award and brought the best writing award to Amin Kafashzadeh, while Shojaee received an honorable mention for directing.
‘Gray Body’ is about a doctor who is visiting with one of his patients, while there is a room full of psychiatric patients who are waiting for him and cannot keep calm anymore.
‘Legendary Numbers’ by Mehdi Alibeigi was selected as the best series of the year.
The best music award was presented to composer Peyman Yazdanian for his collaboration in ‘Each Other’ directed by Sara Tabibzadeh and ‘Heaven’ by Farnoush Abedi won the award for best character design.
