Iran titles en route to US film gala

Two titles from Iran are to vie at the competition program of the 20th Santa Fe Film Festival in the US.

Iran-Canada joint short film ‘Funfair’ by Kaveh Mazaheri will be Iran representative at the short film section of the event.

“Majid, a financially struggling man, comes up with a ploy in order to better the life of his wife Sara,” a synopsis for the film reads.

‘Funfair’ was screened at the 17th edition of the Tirana International Film Festival in Albania while back. It was also screened at the 21st POFF Shorts (international short film and animation festival) in Estonia.

Among some of the accolades grabbed by the short flick are best international short film award at the 32nd Foyle Film Festival in the UK, Best Screenplay Award at the 2019 Court en Scène film festival in France as well as the special mention of the 2019 Winchester Film Festival (WFF) in the UK.

Santa Fe Film Festival will be also hosting an Iranian feature film titled ‘Untimely’.

Directed by Pouya Eshtehardi, ‘Untimely’ is about a Baluchi soldier whose on-guard duty and sister’s wedding have been coincided; and now he faces difficulty taking a leave.

The Museum of Fine Arts in Houston in the US previously screened Eshtehardi’s ‘Untimely’.

The Santa Fe Film Festival focuses on bringing together distinguished industry specialists and all movie lovers through accessible screenings, panels and workshops.

The screening event is to be held in New Mexico on February 12-16, 2020.
