Iranian short ‘Block’ to vie in UK

Iranian short ‘Block’ has been selected to compete at the 16th Kinofilm & Manchester International Film Festival in the UK.

Directed by Mostafa Rabbani, the short film will compete at Crime/Noir section of the British event.

‘Block’ (Bloc) depicts the story of two teenagers who are entangled in a critical situation.

Farhang Omrani, Mohammad-Reza Kaviani, Fatemeh Manouchehr, Mehdi Bakhshi, Vafa Khatami, Fereshteh Kordinejad, and Mahsa Bakhshi are among the cast.

The flick has so far attended a number of global events, including the 11th Film Fest Petaluma in the US, winning Award for Best Drama at the 10th Short to the Point Film Festival in Romania and February edition’s Best Director award at the 2nd Moscow Shorts Int’l Short Film Festival in Russia.

Rabbani has previously made a number of short films, including ‘You Can Turn Ahead’, ‘Special Screening’, ‘136’, and ‘Count your Steps’.

Among Iran representatives at this edition of the Kinofilm are ‘The Feast of the Goat’ by Saeed Zamanian, ‘Umbra’ by Saeed Jafarian, ‘Flying Fishes’ by Mohammad Towrivarian, ‘Starvation’ by Zahra Rostampour, ‘Cleaner’ by Mohammad-Reza Meyqani, ‘Dissect’ by Siavash Shahabi, ‘Azadeh’ by Mirabbas Khosravinejad, and ‘Watch Me’ by Reza Mehranfar.

The Kinofilm fest celebrates the talents of emerging and established filmmakers.

The fest is famous for showcasing the best short films and debut features from around the world.

The 16th Kinofilm is slated for February 24–March 1, 2020.
