‘Sisters Apart’ will world premiere at the festival’s Perspektive Deutsches Kino (Perspectives on German Cinema) program later this month.
“Rojda, a German soldier and native Kurd, volunteers for a mission to train female Kurdish soldiers in Iraq to fight Daesh terrorist group. No one must know that she is actually looking for her missing sister,” a synopsis for the film reads.
Boubani reportedly plays the role of Rojda’s mother.
Filming for ‘Sisters Apart’ took two years and took place in Germany, Greece and Iraq.
Perspektive Deutsches Kino “presents directors screening their debut films on topics from throughout the world but for the greatest part produced in Germany,” according to the festival’s website.
Founded in 1951, the Berlin International Film Festival is one of the world’s leading film events.
The 70th edition of the festival will take place on February 20-March 01, 2020.
