Fajr audience picks as of day six

The Fajr Film Festival has announced the top audience picks for films screened at the 38th edition of the event as of day six.

In no order, the following films received the most votes by the audience following the sixth day of screenings:

‘Abadan Eleven 60’ directed by Mehrdad Khoshbakht

‘Amphibian’ directed by Borzou Niknejad

‘Bone Marrow’ directed by Hamid-Reza Qorbani

‘Butterfly Stroke’ directed by Mohammad Kart

‘Day of Uprising’ directed by Behrouz Shoeibi

‘Walnut Tree’ directed by Mohammad-Hossein Mahdavian

‘Zero Day’ directed by Saeed Malekan

With more screenings still on the way, the likelihood of seeing changes in the list is very high.

The film with the most votes by the audience will receive the festival’s Audience Award for Best Film.

Current record-holders for the highly sought after award are filmmakers Ebrahim Hatimikia and Kamal Tabrizi with three awards each, followed by Majid Majidi and Saeed Roustaee with two awards.

Hatimikia and Majidi are participants at this year’s festival with the former premiering his feature ‘Exit’ and the latter premiering ‘The Sun’.

The Fajr Film Festival coincides with the Ten-Day Fajr (Dawn) ceremonies across Iran, marking the anniversary of the 1979 Islamic Revolution.

Since its establishment in 1982, the Fajr Film Festival has played a vital role in the development of Iranian Cinema.

Supervised by Iran’s Ministry of Culture, the festival hosts veteran directors along with up and coming filmmakers from Iran every year.

The 38th edition of the event is currently underway and will run until February 11 in Tehran.

An international version of the event is also set to be held in April 2020.
