Iranian ‘Bitter Sea’ to go to Toronto

The Iranian Cinematheque of Didar in Toronto, Canada, has scheduled to screen Iranian short ‘Bitter Sea’ during a program titled “Screening of Tirgan”.

Written and directed by Fatemeh Ahmadi, ‘Bitter Sea’ is about the suffering of an immigrant mother.

It tells the story of a Romanian single mother who escapes from an abusive husband and flees to London to build a better future for her daughter.

She has found a job and place to live, but the landlord has a strict ‘no children allowed’ policy. Trapped in an impossible situation, she has to find a way to hide her daughter being in the flat.

Produced in the UK, it was earlier screened at a number of global events, including the 71st Cannes Film Festival in France, the 2017 Berlinale in Germany, the 39th Durban International Film Festival in South Africa, and the 37th Fajr Film Festival in Iran.

The short film has won admirations such as an Honorable Mention at the 24th International Adana Film Festival in Turkey and a nomination at the 2018 British Independent Film Awards in the UK.

The Iranian Cinematheque of Didar screenings will be followed by Q&A sessions, attended by the film crews, on February 21.
