‘One Person’ from Iran to vie in the UK

Iranian short animation ‘One Person’ has been scheduled to compete at the 2020 edition of the Canterbury Anifest in the UK.

Directed by Mahboubeh Kalaee and produced by Iran’s Documentary and Experimental Film Center, the 3-minute animation is about a bowl with three motifs of roses where a universe of meaning is telling the story of love and loneliness.

The short animation has gone on screen at a number of global events, including the 29th World Festival of Animated Film Zagreb (Animafest Zagreb) in Croatia, the 16th “In The Palace” International Film Festival in Bulgaria, and the 2019 Banjaluka International Animated Film Festival in Bosnia and Herzegovina.

Born in 1992, Kalaee holds a BA in Industrial Design from the Tehran College of Fine Arts. She is studying animation directing at Tehran University of Art (Faculty of Cinema) since 2018. She is a 2D animator, writer, illustrator, graphic designer, and director of several short and experimental animations.

Launched in 2007, the Canterbury Anifest is an award-winning animation festival and the largest annual event of this kind in the South East of the UK.

It’s a great community event that invites people of all ages to come and experience the magic of animation; allowing them to get involved with something out of the ordinary. With its range of workshops, master-classes, talks and films, it has something for everyone.

The Anifest also caters for specialists and those in the industry, featuring national and international awards, and guest speakers from some of the biggest names in animation.

The 2020 Canterbury Anifest is slated for February 28-March 1.
